NSS Report

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, 1969. Aimed at developing student’s personality through community service. The NSS Activities in College Premises is inaugurated in the year 2013 and it is functioning efficiently through NSS Volunteers from Various Departments.

The KMEA Egineering college unit no: 226 headed by Principal Dr. Amar Nishad and directed by Programme officer Midhun Mohan. The unit actively participated in all social activeties.

Duties of NSS volunteers

NSS volunteer should put in:

  • Establish rapport with the people in the project area
  • Identify needs, problems and resources of the community.
  • Plan programs and carry out the plan.
  • Relate learning experience towards finding solutions to the problem identified.
  • Record the activities in the work diary systematically and assess the progress periodically and effect changes as and when needed.
Objective of NSS

“Serve the downtrodden in the society” and “Personality Development through Community Service”.

Motto

The motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of selfless service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view and also consideration for fellow human beings.

Recent Events Organized
ENVIRONMENT DAY

 As a humble tribute to our mother nature we the NSS unit of KMEA engineering college marked the righteous venture of spreading the importance and existence of our mother nature among students.  On environment day i.e. 5th June ,the NSS volunteers planted saplings in our campus. The programme was lead by Vice principal Dr. Rekha Lakshmanan and NSS programme officer Midhun mohan. The programme ended at 1pm.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

We the NSS Unit of KMEA Engineering College celebrated International Yoga Day on 21st June 2018 with the whole world by conducting a yoga workshop in our college lead by Yoga trainer Mr. Jayaraj. An informative class about yoga was given by him followed by addressing speech by our vice principal Ms. Rekha Lakshmanan. The program ended up by performing yoga postures which was lead by Mr. Binnu A.R who has backed a diploma in yoga from SV Vyasa Institute, Bangalore. The active participation of the NSS volunteers made the program enthusiastic and a big success.

STEM CELL DONATION

KMEA Engineering college NSS unit no. 226 organised a stem cell donation camp on 31.07.2018 in the college campus to help a 3 year old child from blood cancer. The camp was organised in association with DATRI Blood stem cell donors registry, Chennai. NSS programme Officer Midhun Mohan and DATRI representatives inaugurated officially. About 700 peoples including students, teachers and locality members came up to donate stem cell. The camp ended by 5 in the evening.

GANDHI  JAYANTHI
  1. CLEANING

As a part of Gandhi jayanthi KMEA Engineering college NSS unitno.226 conducted a cleaning work in the campus to eradicate plastic from our campus under green campus clean campus on 2-10-2018 at 9am.

2.PHOTO GALLERY / EXHIBITION

KMEA Engineering college NSS unit 226 conducted a photo gallery on the life of Gandhi ji. The exhibition was open on 5th and 6th for students and parents. Dr.Amar Nishad ,director KMEA Engg. College and Adv. Majeed Parakkadan inaugurated the gallery accompanied by vice principal Dr. Rekha lakshmanan.  All the engineering students , teachers and some parents all visited the photo gallery making it a great success.

PAINTING WALLS

Highlights:

KMEA NSS Volunteers cleaned the campus walls and had done wall painting on the walls the academic blocks.

WORLD WATER DAY

KMEA NSS volunteer performed myme depicting the importance of preserving water on the occasion of world water day.

BOOK EXHIBITION   

KMEA NSS Volunteers organised a book exhibition on the occassion of world book day .

COMMUNITY ACTIVITY  

MANJALI CLEANING PROGRAMME

As a part of flood relief activity KMEA Engineering college NSS  unit226 has conducted a 1 day cleaning program at manjali on 25.8.2018 assisted by the panchayath members of the locality. Our NSS volunteers actively participated in the cleaning works.

KUNNUKARA CLEANING PROGRAMME

KMEA Engineering college NSS unit 226 willingly took a 1 day  cleaning work on 27.08.2018 at Kunnukara Panchayath which is one of the place in Ernakulam where flood had affected badly. Both the students and staff togetherly cleaned about 25 houses and roads in that locality in the presence of panchayath officials.

SURVEY AT PARAKKADAVU

KMEA Engineering college NSS unit 226 as a part of flood relief activity had conducted a survey at Parakkadavu panchayath  from 27th August 2018 to 1st September 2018  which was guided by program officer Midhun Mohan and other faculties. The 6 day survey programme was completed smoothly and datas of more than 500 houses were taken.

SOUTH RAILWAY STATION

KMEA Engineering college NSS volunteers actively worked at the south railway station from 28-08-18 to 01-09-18 to unload and load the items brought from other places for suppling it to the flood victims.

FLOOD RELIEF PACKING

The KMEA Engineering college NSS unit 226 volunteers helped in the packing of grocery items for the flood victims near Kakanad collectorate from 02-09-18 to 04-09-18. Both the teachers and students actively joined in the programme.

WORLD HEART DAY

The NSS unit of KMEA engineering college and Samaritan heart institute Pazhaganad unitedly celebrated the world heart day ON 29th september 2018 by conducting a walkathon to Samaritan hospital which was flagoffed actor master Chetan jailal at 8.30am.

CHILDREN’S  DAY PROGRAMME

The CENTRE FOR EMPOWERMENT AND ENRICHMENT (CEFEE) organised the children’s day program for the special students in ernakulam region. The KMEA NSS unit volunteers whole heartedly helped them for conducting programs.

Christmas Celebration

 Kmea NSS volunteers celebrated Christmas with the specially abled students.

THIRUVAYIRANIKULAM DUTY

During the festive season the area near Thiruvayiranikulam temple will be full of plastics , to avoid this condition the district collector introduced green protocol rule. NSS volunteers from different college indulged in this activity to make the place a plastic free zone.

WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION

KMEA NSS unit celebrated woman’s day with the inmates of an old age home.

ORIENTATION INDEPENDENCE DAY

KMEA Engineering college NSS unit 226 celebrated the 72nd Independence day on 15th August 2018. The programme started at 9 am with a prayer.  Dr. Rekha lakshmanan , Vice principal of the institution hoisted the flag continued by an orientation class.

NSS DAY CELEBRATION

On the occassion of NSS day , KMEA NSS volunteers hoisted flag and also organised an anti-drug awareness class for the students of the college.

VIJNANAYATHRA

The CMI Sacred heart province conducted a Vijnanayathra as a part of Suchithwa Bodhana Yajnam for promoting clean, green and healthy technologies at KMEA Engineering College on 27-08-18 at 1.00 in the evening including the NSS volunteers.

DOCUMENTARY PRESENTATION

The Gandhi jayanthi celebration continued with documentary presentation on the life of Gandhi ji in the afternoon and then speech on the incidents that had happened in his life  by our NSS volunteer and also the NSS volunteers were divided into groups and they presented drama groupwise.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

KMEA Engineering college NSS unit 226 conducted an orientation class for the new NSS volunteers for making them aware of the importance and motives of being a NSS volunteer. The class was taken by Iqbal , an NACT member under the guidance of associate program officer Mrs. Shaila C K.

Road safety class

The traffic police in cooperation with the lions club conducted an road safety class for students and college bus drivers. The chief guest was Srikanth , Indian hockey captain and a team from traffic control including regional officers were present . Kmea college NSS volunteers actively participated in the class.

PRE CAMP ORIENTATION

A Pre camp orientation class was conducted by the senior volunteers under the guidance of program officer Midhun Mohan. The volunteers were given with a clearcut view of the camp activites.
